how to invest in antique firearms

That Old Gun In Your Storage Could Be Worth Thousands!

Collecting firearms is a niche hobby that a lot of people don’t think about. You might have already purchased a firearm to protect your family, but have you considered buying a gun as a financial investment? Investing in firearms is less unpredictable than investing in traditional securities such as stocks and bonds.

Which firearms are good to invest in?

To be a successful antique investor, you’ll need to know what to look for when purchasing a firearm. A weapon’s value can fluctuate depending on trends in the market, condition of the weapon, and the weapon’s rarity. With experience you’ll be able to appraise firearms based on their current condition and estimated appreciation. Some things to look for when you are researching potential investments:

Branding – Antiques made by well-known manufacturers such as Winchester, Glock, and Smith & Wesson are a go to for beginner collectors. Firearms produced by companies like these are easily recognizable and have a large following.

Nostalgia – If the firearm is associated with any cultural reference, it is considered a collectible. Think Dirty Harry’s Smith & Wesson Model 29 or the 1911 from Magnum, PI. Nostalgic guns tend to hold their value, with the potential to increase, because of the significance they have for a specific generation. Historical significance can increase antique’s value too.

Perception – Brands such as Glock and Beretta are well known for producing high quality firearms. They have a greater chance of producing collector’s guns than a local gunsmith would.

Rarity – Limited edition weapons will always be worth more than weapons made in an unlimited quantity. There will always be a demand for firearms manufactured in a limited quantity no matter how “good” the gun is.

Where to find antique firearms

Auctions are a great place to find antique firearms (of course we would think so!). This month we have a limited supply Winchester 94AE 45 Colt | No. 5 of 149 and a hard to find L.C. Smith Hunter 12GA side-by-side shotgun. These rare finds will boost the value of your collection substantially.

Are you ready to start investing? Pre-bidding is open now for the Firearms, Ammo, & Accessories Auction. The auction starts on July 30 @ 10am ET.
